We are a group of Japan-based scholars interested in understanding and documenting the intersections of malaria and society during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia. Including scholars from health science backgrounds as well as from history, anthropology and international relations, we try to explore related subjects which have been heretofore avoided. We have now started our second related grant, moving from a focus on medicine and hygiene towards epidemic prevention and the medical system.
- Project I: The Malaria War in Indonesia during the Japanese Occupation Period: “Colonial” society as seen from medical care and hygiene
- Project II: Indonesia’s Malaria War: Explorations of Society through Wartime Epidemic Prevention and Medical System
